MOORLACH CALTRANS UPDATE — Cost Overruns — August 12, 2015

The Caltrans Record:
62% Of Projects Over Budget

FACT: An audit of Caltrans by the California State Auditor found that 62% of the completed projects had costs that “exceeded their respective budgets.”

FACT:The California State Auditorfoundthat these overruns “totaled more than $305 million of the $1.4 billion in support cost expenditures for the projects.”

FACT: These overruns are in addition to the Legislative Analyst’s Office report findingthat Caltrans is overstaffed by 3,500 employees at an annual cost of $$ half a billion dollars.

FACT: Californians pay the 4th highest gas taxes in the nation, yet California road conditions are rated among the nation’s worst.

Before we give Caltrans additional taxpayer funding, let’s fix how Caltrans spends the money it already has.

It’s theREASONABLEapproach.
