MOORLACH CAMPAIGN UPDATE — CRA Endorsement — February 10, 2015

Moorlach Wins California Republican Assembly Endorsement by Wide Margin
4 to 1 vote margin for Moorlach foreshadows race dynamics

Don Wagner Struggles to Explain Campaign Contributions Provided by Public Employee Labor Unions

(Orange County, CA) – On Saturday, Former Orange County Supervisor John Moorlach won the endorsement of one of California’s oldest and largest grassroots organizations, the California Republican Assembly (CRA), in his race for the open 37th Senate District.

Moorlach’s victory resulted from receiving votes by a better than 4 to 1 margin – surprising his opponent Don Wagner, who had given the CRA a large sponsorship just prior to the endorsing convention. During the Q&A, Wagner struggled to explain why his campaign is bankrolled by public employee unions. Wagner stated that he believed members of the State Legislature were exempted from any pledge forbidding candidates from accepting public employee union contributions.

“California needs more candidates who make sound decisions based on actual data,” said Phil Morello, President of the Costa Mesa Republican Assembly. “Not another pretender who cozies up to the special interests."

“Moorlach proved he can get government back on its feet when he executed a plan that helped pull Orange County out of bankruptcy twenty years ago,” continued Morello. “Moorlach is an accountant trained as a CPA. He starts by looking at the real numbers and then figuring out the best path. The special interests haven’t always been happy with that approach, but in the end, a solvent budget and healthy economy benefits everyone.”

The California Republican Assembly, which has units in the 37th S.D., including Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Tustin, and Newport Beach, remains one of the most influential voices in Orange County politics, and the organization’s endorsement bolsters Moorlach’s precinct volunteer efforts.
